The Last Breakfast
Yes!
You read it right. ‘The Last Breakfast.’ Most Believers are all too
familiar with the Last Supper, but often overlook the importance of the
‘Last Breakfast’ the disciples shared on the shores of Galilee before
Christ’s ascension to the Father.
Several
apotheosized events happened during the Last supper. Jesus foretold of
His suffering and crucifixion death for the kingdom of God (Luke 22:15-16).
Believers everywhere faithfully observe Passover and Communion in
remembrance of our beloved Savior. During this same meal Jesus revealed
Judas Iscariot’s betrayal (Matthew 26:21-24), and foretold of Peter’s denial (Luke 22:34).
An
often overlooked lesson learned during the evening of the Last Supper
was when Jesus taught the principles of servant-hood as He washed His
disciples’ feet: But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is
greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he
who serves. For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who
serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the
One who serves. (Luke 22:26-27)
You
might be asking, “What is; And what does this have to do with the Last
Breakfast?” Keep this question in mind while I add some more ingredients
to deepen the flavor of this spiritual food.
On resurrection morning the women named Mary went to the now empty tomb of our Risen Savior Jesus Christ. (Matthew 27:56, Mark 15:47) Not only did these women find an empty tomb, they also encountered an Angel who tells them
to go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead,
and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you. (Matthew 28:7)
A
little further down in Matthew verses 9 and 10 scripture tells us that
Jesus tells them the same thing the Angel just told them in verse 7. And
as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying,
“Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. Then
Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to
Galilee, and there they will see Me.” (Matthew 28:9-10)
In verse 7 the Angel explicitly says, “Behold, I have told you.”
From this we also learn that Jesus gave the Angel instructions to tell
them beforehand. By this we have conformation that upon the death of
Jesus that He immediately took up his rightful place and Glorified. I
have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You
have given Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify Me together with
Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. (John 17:4-5)
I
add this bit of information in rebuttal to all those who have been
falsely taught that Jesus suffered in Hell or was left in limbo in the

An Angel and Jesus both tell the women to instruct the Disciples to go to Galilee. This tells me something very important is going to happen in Galilee that the We and the Disciples need to hear, learn, and do.
Satan’s Perversion
Satan does not want us know the full revelation of Jesus Christ’s actions at the Last Supper.
Satan would have the Church focus on Jesus’ impending death and Judas Iscariot’s betrayal.
If
this tactic does not work then Satan’s last ditch efforts would have
Believers focused on the formalities of the communion remembrance
through ceremony.
Satan
has blinded the eyes of most Christians to a deeper understanding that
binds The Last Supper and The Last Breakfast together.
Jesus Christ does not miss a single step. Jesus picks right up at The Last Breakfast where He left off at The Last Supper.
Jesus simply has a Three day interim period where He defeats Death, Satan, and led captivity captive to Paradise. (1 Corinthians 15:55-57, Colossians 2:15, Ephesians 4:8)
The Connection
Jesus
Christ did not let Satan derail His ministry. During the Last Supper
Jesus revealed to Peter that he would deny Him three times. (Matthew 26:34) Jesus as the Good Shepard (John 10:11) washes the Disciples feet. (John 13:12-17)
Jesus ended the meal by showing us that servant-hood is the key
ingredient to being an obedient follower of His gospel message.
Jesus gives instructions for the disciples to meet Him in Galilee. (Matthew 28:16) lets us know that the disciples indeed went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them.
Jesus
picks right back up where he left off by instructing and feeding His
sheep. They have breakfast on the shores of Galilee also know as the Sea
of Tiberias. (John 21:1)
Jesus is showing His supreme provisions by filling their nets full of fish after a disappointing night catching nothing. (John 21:3,6)
Not
only does Jesus teach and feed His sheep; Jesus proves that His work on
the Cross was not in vain by showing His loving forgiveness and
restoration fellowship to Peter.
Peter
once again finds himself in a boat looking out at His Master Jesus.
This time scripture tells us that Peter didn’t ask Jesus, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” (Matthew 14:28)
Peter’s
tormented heart from the disappointment of his denial of Jesus caused
him to plunge himself into the sea to go meet his Savior Jesus. (John 21:7)
Alas.
we find ourselves with Jesus once again teaching servant-hood after a
meal with His disciples. Just like at The Last Supper.
Jesus
accomplishes two tasks with a threefold question. Jesus restores Peter
and teaches a deeper meaning of what servant-hood is as Shepard to the
flock; and what all this in-tales.
So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.” He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?”
Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love
Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I
love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.” (John 21:15-17)
Jesus’
restoration of Peter is through Peter’s reaffirmation of his love and
Jesus’ instructions of how to show it. Peter’s failure by denial is
evidenced through his restoration through obedience as proof of his
genuine love.
Jesus asks Peter if he loves Him three times but gives three different methods as answers, for the caring of his flock.
Jesus said, “Feed My lambs, Tend My sheep, and Feed My sheep.”
Every
new Believer is like a baby lamb in the Church Family who needs careful
nurturing and spiritual food that they can digest. These lambs grow by
careful tending and supervision. As with all of God’s creatures we
continue to grow and live by feeding on the provisions and word of God.
Even the oldest and wisest need to feed at the table of the Lord.
The Great Commission
Not only did Peter receive restoration at The Last Breakfast; All who call themselves Disciples of Jesus (including you and I as Believers)
received marching orders. This is our instructions as to how we gain
sheep for the growth of Jesus’ flock known as the Church. This is known
as The Great Commission.
And
Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to
Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have
commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the
age.” Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)
Jesus
still practices what He preached from His last mortal breath to His
Last Breakfast among men. Jesus teaches obedience, love, humility, and
servant-hood.
“If
you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He
will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever — the
Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees
Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be
in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. “A little
while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me.
Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am
in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments
and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved
by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” (John 14:15-21)
Ask yourself, “Do you Truly know and Love Jesus?” You can be sure by praying this prayer.
“Lord
Jesus, I am a sinner and I need a Savior. Right now I will turn away
and repent from my sin and accept you as my Lord and Savior. I trust and
believe that You are the Son of God, my Lord and Savior for my
salvation, I know and believe that You died on the Cross and rose again
from the grave to pay for my sins. I thank you for saving me. Amen.”
