What are Angels?
I must preface this article stating that the worship of angels in the place of God is a transgression and iniquity towards God. Angel worship is the basis of many occultist beliefs.
Let
no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and
worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen,
vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, (Colossians 2:18)
And
no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.
Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform
themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according
to their works. (2 Corinthians 11:14-15)
Beloved,
do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of
God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this
you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus
Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not
confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this
is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is
now already in the world.
You
are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is
in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world.
Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are
of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear
us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. (1 John 4:1-6)
Satan’s Perversion
With this warning in mind let me state that as the end times draw near, the deceptions and perversions from Satan and his fallen entourage ‘have and will’ continue to dramatically increase.
The
coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with
all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception
among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the
truth, that they might be saved. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-10)
For false Christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)
Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” (Revelation 22:8-9)
This angel refused to receive worship from John and told him to worship God. In like manner, the apostle Paul repeated himself twice in the book of Galatians, to not only be warily watchful of angels but even themselves the very preachers standing in the pulpits. These kinds of heresy and false doctrines stem from evil influences designed for the destruction of your very soul.
But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As
we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other
gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.(Galatians 1:8-9)
God is truth (Titus 1:2) and Satan speaks lies (John 8:44) to deceive mankind . This is why it is crucial to discern the root source you call truth. As a true believer you can rest in the assurance; you can be at peace, through God who will guard your heart and mind in Jesus.
Be
anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of
God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Angels among Us
It is obvious that angels are among us. The question is… What role do they play spiritually?
Angels are God’s messengers who carry out the will of the Father. Angels in Greek ἄγγελος transliteration aggelos Strongs #G32 gives the meaning as a messenger, envoy, one who is sent, an angel, a messenger from God.
These angelic beings wear multiple hats in their service to God. Angels are well equipped to do whatever the Lord requires or wishes. Here are just 10 essential functions in their angelic service.
1) Angels worship and provide services for God. (Psalms 148:1-2).
2) They deliver instructions (Acts 8:26),
3) Guidance (Exodus 23:20),
4) Provisions (1 Kings 19:5-6),
5) Protection (Psalms 91:11),
6) Deliverance from danger (Daniel 6:22),
7) Ministers (Hebrews 1:14),
8) Give strength and encouragement (Daniel 10:18-19),
9) Bring answers to prayers (Daniel 10:12-13),
10) Angels even play the role of executioner. (2 Kings 19:35).
Angels are literally ‘dead set’ on doing the will of God.
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, (Hebrews 12:22)
His
tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth.
And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to
devour her Child as soon as it was born. (Revelation 12:4)
Angelic Encounters
The bible records that you may have already encountered and angelic being and never knew it.
Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. (Hebrews 13:2)
Now
the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from
the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, (1 Timothy 4:1)
Jesus has always existed as the word of the Godhead. (John 1:1-2) Jesus chose to put on flesh and prove Himself to be a sin-free sacrifice through crucifixion on a cross. Jesus emptied Himself by stripping away His divine privileges. Jesus humbled Himself and became a plain ole common ordinary man. Now that my friend! Is a God worthy of your praise and love.
God proved His love by becoming a Man and dying for You!
Let
this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the
form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made
Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming
in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He
humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the
death of the cross. (Philippians 2:5-11)
But
we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the
suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace
of God, might taste death for everyone. (Hebrews 2:9)
We also know that at His resurrection Mary did not recognize Jesus because He took on the appearance of a Gardener.
Jesus
said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She,
supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried
Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” (John 20:15)
To all who have come with me this far; you know who and what angels are. You know their purpose for existence and you know how to discern from whence they came. In the next teaching we will discover whether or not Jesus ever appeared as ‘the angel of the Lord.’
