Convenient Christian
“Honey, Let’s go fishing today.” Ted called to his wife. Hoping that she would answer with her usual and emphatic response, “I thought you’d never ask.”Instead Mandy answered, “I’m feeling a little under the weather. I don’t think I would be very good company today.” Mandy sensed Ted’s disappointment and knew his protective nature. She quickly followed her rejection with, “Why don’t you ask Chase to tag along with you. Besides, I could use some quite time to myself with a bowl of chicken soup anyway.”
Ted responded, “Are you sure? I mean, Will you be alright? Naw, I’ll quietly piddle around in the garage. Maybe I’ll catch-up on some honey do’s I’ve been neglecting.”
Mandy knew he desperately would rather be fishing. “Honey, I’ll be fine. G.O. Go, You and Chase have a lot of catching up to do also. Besides, I’d really rather be alone.”
“Well, If your sure you’ll be alright?” Ted sheepishly responded. “I’ll be fine. Now GO! Mandy answered with a fake grin and wave of her hand.
“Man that’s a Lunker! Hold it up, and I’ll get a picture!” screamed Ted. Chase had just caught a whopping 6 pound bass off of a rocky outcropping on the bend of the lake-shore.
Chase, nearly out of breath and shaky with excitement turned to Ted and said, “Man I’m so glad you asked me along today. That bass is my personal best catch to date. The only way this day could get any better is if, I just had a beer in one hand and a babe in the other!” (1 Corinthians 5:11)
Chase’s statement sent flurries of memories dancing through Ted’s head. Ted briefly but ‘admittedly’ entertained his less than Christian thoughts. His mind rushed back to Mandy. He wondered how she might be doing and if she was feeling better. Then suddenly, conviction set in. (2 Corinthians 10:5)
Ted responded. “We should be getting back home. It’s been a pretty good day. Besides, I need to get back and make sure Mandy is really Ok.” Ted could tell this wasn’t what Chase wanted to hear by the look in Chase’s eyes. (1 Timothy 5:8)
Ted pulled the trolling motor out of the water and secured it to the deck. He then tossed a life vest to Chase and said, “You got to put this back on to make the run to the Marina.” (Philippians 2:4)
The boys skipped atop of the water like a flat stone tossed from shore. Their limit of bass in the live well and the sun low in the sky to their backs. As they crossed the no wake zone into the Marina Harbor some scantly clad ladies caught Chases attention. (1 John 2:16)
Chase looked at Ted panting with his tongue hanging half out said, “Now that’s what I’m talking about. There’s the babes, let’s grab some brewskies from the Marina store and ask them to go for a spin around the lake.” (Matthew 5:28)
A beautiful auburn haired women in a sheer pale blue bikini threw a wink, with a twist of her hair, at Ted and Chase as they idled up to the dock. (Proverbs 2:16)
Without hesitation Chase threw out a pickup line to the young seductress of a girl, “Man you look way to HOT, let me buy you a beer and cool you off.” To their amazement Chase’s stupid catcall line worked. With another twist of her beautiful auburn locks, the temptress replied, “One beer may not be enough, things just now appear to be heating up!” (Proverbs 5:3)
“C’mon, Ted—Live a little, especially before she changes her mind. I got dibs on this one. Let’s go see if her friend is thirsty.” (Micah 2:1)
Ted worried about Mandy and disgusted with Chases relentless booze and babe lifestyle rebutted, “Convenient Christian. When will you ever change. Are you ever going to grow up and be the husband and father that your family deserves instead of a Convenient Christian….. Dude, I thought you meant it when you accepted Christ.”
Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
Satan has persuaded 21st
century “religions” that part-time Christianity and Hypocrisy are a
form of acceptable moral conduct. This perversion has left our churches
and witness impotent of power and truth.
The
church is full of Convenient Christians. Being a Christian only when it
is convenient disqualifies your faith and brings in to question your
salvation. Satan’s perversion says it is easier to ask for forgiveness
than permission, is an abuse of Grace.
This
abuse only perpetuates the cycle of Satanic influence by giving
ammunition to unbelievers to point the finger of hypocrisy at believers
and fire the gun of condemnation.
For
such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves
into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms
himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his
ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness,
whose end will be according to their works.
How
would you end this story? Examine yourself and see if your answer would
be in faith. Would you pass the test, or are you disqualified?
